In 1975, Maurice and Penny Lowndes established Access Hardware in North Melbourne, Victoria, with only four employees. Now under the guidance of the second generation of the Lowndes family, the business continues to grow and prosper.
From a single branch in the 1970s, Access Hardware continued to grow throughout the 1980s and early 1990s by developing the business in new locations and investing in technology and people.
In 1995, Access Hardware expanded its operations to New South Wales, where they opened a branch in Parramatta to service the thriving construction industry in New South Wales.
Access Hardware expanded to Launceston in 1997 and Hobart the following year. Opening in Adelaide in 2006, and Brisbane in 2007, Access Hardware has become the largest supplier of Architectural Hardware in Australia.
The acquisition of Specialty Hardware in Alexandria, New South Wales in 2010 saw the relocation of the existing Parramatta branch to this new site. With this acquisition, a new locksmithing division was opened, providing new and increased servicing to existing customers. With knowledgeable staff and new services our market share in New South Wales grew.
In 2012, Access Hardware acquired Architectural Hardware and Doors in South Australia, this was quickly followed by expanding into the Northern Territory with the acquisition of Northern Locksmiths in 2013. This latest move places Access Hardware in a strong position to service all of Australia.
Today, Access Hardware continues to invest in their resources and people to meet the growing needs and expectations of our expanding customer base.
